A camera trap update is well overdue, since my introductory post a month ago. The photographs you see below were captured during two particularly fruitful nights a few weeks ago when it looks as though our backyard was quite a destination! Ignore the timestamp on these images because for some reason the hour is wrong, though some interesting information can still be gleaned. Our resident rabbit is around most nights and I usually end up with dozens of photographs of her, but on looking through the results I was happy to see an opossum making a debut appearance. Next up was a large white-tailed deer who had a look around for a while, followed by a skunk whose foraging route seems to pass through our lawn. The next night our rabbit was back again of course, but we were joined by a raccoon that crossed our backyard while on its adventures, before returning on the same path four hours later. The skunk returned that night too. Note the football and basketball in the background which mysteriously disappear in the shots from the second night. Now although I have to admit that I moved those balls, I couldn’t help smiling at the thought of a Bedknobs and Broomsticks-style animal football match in our backyard. Who knows what goes on while we’re all asleep!
